Head of Performance Programme & NIO Formula E Team Principal

Gérry joined the NIO Formula E Team in the position of Chief Race Engineer in December 2015, before Team Principal in February 2017. In addition, he is the Head of the Performance Programme which sees him manage all aspects of the NIO EP9 Supercar programme. A career spanning 30 years in high performance engineering has seen Gérry work in a diverse array of motorsport categories, holding senior positions across a range of high profile racing organisations, covering both engineering & operational disciplines.

Performance Programme Engineering Director

Paul joined the NIO Formula E Team ahead of the 2016/17 season to fulfil the role of Performance Programme Engineering Director. Prior to that he acted as an automotive consultant in the fields of vehicle dynamics and highperformance vehicle development. His experience comes through senior roles at companies including Ford, where he worked with the Sauber, Stewart and Jaguar teams in Formula One and also with the Ford Focus in the FIA World Rally Championship, Ferrari, Maserati, FIAT Group and McLaren Automotive.

Performance Programme Operations Director & Sporting Director

Barry joined the NIO Formula E Team for the 2016/17 season, moving from Team Aguri where he was Head of Team Operations. He has a wealth of motorsport management experience garnered from positions held at the Virgin Formula E Team as well as the Lotus and Renault F1 Teams. He started with NIO as Team Manager and was promoted to the role of Performance Programme Operations Director in March 2017. In addition, Barry’s appointment in 2018 as Sporting Director means he is the FIA Sporting Liaison for NIO.

Performance Programme Racing Director

Christian joined NIO at the beginning of Season 3 to head up the Race and Test Engineering Department. Previously, he had held numerous positions in a variety of teams competing in the FIA Formula One World Championship since graduating in 1987. For most of his time in F1, Christian focused on Race and Performance Engineering, although he has also held senior positions in motorsport Project Management and Production. Spending 11 years with the Renault F1 Team, including eight as Chief Test Engineer, he then worked for both Marussia and, latterly, Williams.

Team Manager

Andrew’s extensive knowledge of motorsport has been accrued from high profile roles within the FIA Formula One World Championship, the Indy Lights category in the USA, the British Touring Car Championship and sportscar racing. He joined NIO in April 2016 as the NIO Formula E Team Chief Mechanic, being promoted to the role of Team Manager during Season 4.

Rod Nelson

Rod Nelson

Head of Vehicle Performance

Rod joined the NIO Formula E team in January 2018 as Head of R&D before being promoted to head-up the newly-formed Vehicle Performance Group. Since gaining his PhD in 1990 he has worked continuously in Formula 1, undertaking Race Engineering and Chief Engineer roles at Arrows, Simtek, Renault and Williams.
